25 Days Until The Great Pumpkin Returns!!! Count Floyd's Sultry Stylin' Vocals

There are many who are huge fans of the original Saturday Night Live Cast. But I was always an SCTV guy. Maybe it was the John Candy. Maybe I just hate live TV. I do think Second City had something special though, a deft combination of clever and silly. And a lot of acting talent and multifaceted comedic depth. And while we may agree to disagree on the merits of SCTV vs. SNL, there is one thing I do know.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond

The American People love vampires. It's one of our inalienable freedoms.

And I prefer undead TV to live TV.

For your Halloween delight I will introduce you to an album criminally unavailable on Cd, and even more amazingly, the people who made this were never incarcerated. This is not one of my desert island discs--
It's more of a Gilligan's Island disc.

I am not sure where this fascination with blood sucking ghouls first began--it may have started with Fox News. Now its Vampires making cupcakes, Vampire home renovators. But I jest. What I am trying to say is SCTV's Joe Flaherty was a legend before his time. Among his many characters on the show, he portrayed the horror movie host Count Floyd, of  "Monster Chiller Horror Theater". And inexplicably, he also recorded a four song ep. Commendable, but the two hoser brothers from the show, Bob and Doug McKenzie, put out a full album and a feature movie. Even the polka kings the Schmenges had a film. Just imagine if Count Floyd came out in this bat hugging society we live in today. He'd be a superstar, maybe even in Congress.

The first song is The Gory Story Of Debby And Duane, which is basically a musical version of a campfire horror story. After this is the bizarre Reggae Christmas Eve in Transylvania, a Christmas Night of the Living Dead, only with Rastafarians. On the third song, the Count get his mojo going, with the Barrywhitesque Treat You Like A Lady. The ep ends with a funky Count Floyd is Back in the style of Bo Diddley. In a nutshell, pretty scary stuff.
