Your Kiss Is On My List!! Sloppy Seconds' Destroyed

Who Can Make The Sun Shine?
I first heard about Sloppy Seconds from my friend Dave. They are from Indianapolis and are a funny pop punk band. Destroyed is their first full length album which was out of print for many years, but has recently been reissued by Kid Tested Records for its 20th anniversary. The cover of the album is a nifty goof on Kiss' Destroyer album. The album features B.A. on vocals, Bo'Ba Jam on bass, Roadkill on guitar, and Steve Sloppy on drums.

The album blends stupid fun with fast catchy harmonies. Maybe they aren't not too P.C. but you can't take this toilet humor too seriously. They kind of hate everything. What makes the music appealing is that this jaded view of the world comes from being kicked around, by women and the world in general. So this is sort of a guys band. If you enjoy the Threes Stooges you probably will like these guys. And I don't personally know any women who like the Three Stooges. If they are out there they probably should form a support group.

They have songs with titles like I Don't Wanna Be A Homosexual, Runnin' From The C.I.A., Steal Your Beer, and I Want Em' Dead. Come Back Traci is a homage to Traci Lords, the notorious underage porn star from the 80's, where B.A. begs her to return again to the skin trade. They are also some silly revved up covers tunes like The Candy Man and Leavin' On A Jet Plane. There is even a nifty cover of Hooray For Santa Claus from the low budget Christmas classic Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. There's also Janie Is A Nazi, a song where the band carries on in the grand old tradition of the Ramones.

So nothing earth shattering here, just a collection of jokey pop punk. They seem like regular guys, people you might know. Maybe everyone should have their own band or at least some artistic way to express themselves. The Minutemen thought so, so who am I to argue? Sloppy Seconds also have a new one out on Kid Tested entitled Endless Bummer, which is probably along the same lines as Destroyed. I have not heard it. But does include a song with the interesting title You Can't Kill Joey Ramone. Both albums now available from Kid Tested at a consumer friendly price.
